Cover Story Spy

Clue 1

Sometimes the biggest secrets aren’t inside the book… they’re wrapped around it.

Take a slow walk around the outside. Front. Back. All of it. Nothing there is accidental.

Clue 2

You’re looking for something hiding in plain sight.

Not an image. Not punctuation. Words.

When something stands out visually, ask yourself why.

Clue 3

Read the back cover carefully. Then read it again.

Some things deserve a second read.
Be bold.
What comes first may be key.

Clue 4

Look at the bold words in the blurb.

Now don’t read them normally.
Instead… collect their beginnings.

Clue 5

Have you uncovered the hidden message?

Head to www.rollandbite.com and enter the phrase into the search bar exactly as you found it.

Case File Reveal

Here’s how the clues fit together:

  • On the back cover, several words in the blurb are printed in bold.
  • The final line at the bottom reads:
“Head over to www.rollandbite.com for more inspiration. Some things deserve a second read, be bold, what comes first may be key.”
  • “Be bold” directs you to notice the bolded words.
  • “What comes first may be key” tells you to take the first letter of each bold word.

When you collect the first letters of the bolded words, in order from top to bottom, they spell:

CODE RECIPES HIDE SECRETLY

Now head to:

www.rollandbite.com/coderecipeshidesecretly

(Or go to the homepage and search for “code recipes hide secretly” or “coderecipeshidesecretly”.)

Agent Herb

Clue 1

This is a job ideal for Agent “Herb”.

Some detectives read between the lines.
Others scan the room.

This mystery isn’t solved with couscous and thyme alone…

Clue 2

Return to page 56.

The introduction leaves a warning:
“The most intriguing mysteries hide in plain sight.”

If something on the page looks like evidence… treat it like evidence.

Clue 3

The Top Tactics mention scanning in Chronicles of Crime, and hint that the key may be in the crime scene photo.

So don’t just read the recipe.
Examine the image like a detective examining evidence.

Clue 4

In Chronicles of Crime, how do detectives unlock new information?

Look closely at the photo.

Several cards are shown.
Most are partially hidden.

But one… isn’t.

And something on the board is pointing directly at it.

Case File Reveal

On page 56, the recipe “Chronicles of Thyme” contains layered hints:

  • The introduction reminds you that mysteries hide in plain sight.
  • The Top Tactics reference scanning in Chronicles of Crime and specifically mention the crime scene photo.
  • The phrase complete feast is bolded as a nudge.
  • In the recipe image, several QR cards appear, but only one is fully visible.
  • An arrow from the gameboard points directly at it.

Scan the visible QR code in the photo.

It will take you to:

Digital detective work complete. Case cracked.

Page WHisperer

Clue 1

It’s so useful to have all the recipes listed neatly in the table of contents…

Isn’t it?

Clue 2

When you start a new chapter, most readers glance at the contents page first.

It tells you exactly what’s inside.
Or does it?

Clue 3

Flip through the Heat Pedal to the Pressure Cooker chapter slowly.

Is there a full recipe that doesn’t quite match the theme?
Sometimes the best discoveries aren’t announced — they’re stumbled upon.

Clue 4

Check the table of contents the Heat Pedal to the Pressure Cooker chapter carefully.

Now compare it to the actual pages.

Is every recipe accounted for?

Case File Reveal

On page 71, you’ll find a full-page recipe titled:

Sneaky Cider Vinegar Stamina Potion

But here’s the twist:

  • It is not listed in the chapter’s table of contents.
  • It doesn’t match the surrounding recipes.
  • Its introduction openly congratulates you for finding it hidden “within the page leaves.”

This unindexed recipe is the secret.

You’ve uncovered what others may flip past.

Title unlocked: Page Whisperer

Codebreaker

Clue 1

Some recipes are meant to be followed.
Others are meant to be… deciphered.

If you’ve already unlocked “Page Whisperer,” you may have everything you need.

Clue 2

Revisit pages 70 and 71 together.

Read the Top Tactics carefully:
“Some vinegars are more decipherable than others.”

That’s not a throwaway line.

Clue 3

Look closely at the Variations section.

Is “apple cipher vinegar” what you expected to read?

And why suggest experimenting until you find the right one in the right place?

Clue 4

Study the image on page 70.

On the pinboard there’s a card labelled Clue?
It reads:

uroodqgelwh grwfpvodvk xqorfn

Also notice the “Line-Up” of vinegars.
They’re labelled:

1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7

What’s missing?

Clue 5

A missing number.
A cipher.
Decipherable vinegar.

If you were to “shift” something by the missing amount… what would happen?

Case File Reveal

Here’s how to crack it:

  • “Apple cipher vinegar” is a deliberate clue — this is a code.
  • The vinegar line-up skips number 3.
  • That missing number tells you the shift value.

Apply a 3-letter Caesar cipher shift backwards to:

uroodqgelwh grwfpvodvk xqorfn

It decodes to:

rollandbite dotcomslash unlock

Now visit:

You’ll be redirected to a hidden reward recipe.

Cipher solved.
Vault opened.
Codebreaker unlocked.

Case Closed… For Now

If you’ve made it this far, you didn’t just cook: you investigated.

You scanned evidence.
You noticed missing numbers.
You questioned bold words.
You flipped pages with purpose.

That’s exactly the kind of player Winner Winner Chickpea Dinner was made for.
